Teak Wood


One of the most commonly used wood, teakwood is both locally produced and imported. While it is produced locally in Kerala, it is imported from Ghana and Burma. It has small, fragrant white flowers and large papery leaves that are often hairy on the lower surface. It is sometimes known as the "Burmese teak". Teak wood has a leather-like smell when it is freshly milled.


Plywood


Plywood is a very strong manufactured wood as it is build-up of layers of wood veneers which are bonded together to create a flat smooth sheet of wood. Plywood is usually made either of cedar, Douglas fir or spruce, pine, and fir or redwood and is typically used for construction and industrial purposes.


Rose Wood


Indian rosewood is one of the most sought-after material for furniture. A hardwood, Sheesham is a timeless wood which can be used with different polishes and finishes. Indian Rosewwod is a erect deciduous tree. It grows to the height of 25 meter and 2-3 meter in diameter. It has leathery leaves which are up to 15 cm long. The flowers are whitish pink in colour. Its crown is oval in shape. The fruit is brown and pod like in shape.


Walnut Wood


Walnut is a hardwood and is known for its strength, straight grain and its rich chocolate brown colour, however lighter shades are available. Walnuts are very attractive trees in parks and large gardens. Walnut trees are easily propagated from the nuts. Seedlings grow rapidly on good soils. The Japanese walnut in particular is known for its huge leaves, which have a tropical appearance.


Oak Wood


Oaks are hardwood trees, the wood commonly used in oak furniture and flooring. This species grows in the Mediterranean Sea region, with Portugal, Spain, Algeria and Morocco producing most of the world's supply. Some European and American oak species are used to make barrels where wine and other spirits are aged; the barrels, which are in some cases charred before use, contribute to the taste.


Maple Wood


Maple is considered a tonewood, or a wood that carries sound waves well, and is used in numerous musical instruments. Maple is harder and has a brighter sound than mahogany, which is another major tonewood used in instrument manufacture.Maple is also often used to make bassoons and sometimes for other woodwind instruments like maple recorders.Many drums are made from maple.
